Well..Machine Learning is indeed a big fad these days. And it ought to be. All those having Android smartphones, you would know how Google now keeps you up-to-date with the things you ask for and the more you feed in your data (like your home city, your work, your favorite sports team, stocks etc) the more intelligent it becomes. Similarly for iPhone users, there is Siri. Siri is constantly evolving and is becoming smarter and smarter in answering your questions. How? Well, because all these softwares have analysed tons of user-generated data and then have been programmed to make their own decisions. This is where Machine Learning comes into picture. Actually, all of what we discussed above is indeed Machine Learning in a very simple language.
Anuj Duggal, currently working as Graphics Software Engineer at Intel, has been recognized with the Global Intel Software Innovator Award 2014 for establishing relations with Android/Web developers all across the world and impacting developer community with technical sessions on Intel GPA Tools. He currently is the Lead Organizer of Google Developer Group (GDG) Bangalore, having conducted various events and hackathons for developers all across Bangalore.

What is your research about ? Explain with some analogies and/or examples
- Predicting the move of the Inverse Chess (Artificial Intelligent) player.
How is your research unique ?
Inverse Chess (iChess) is a unique game, with a patent in the name of Prof. G.N.S. Prasanna. I worked under him for 1.5 years during my Masters from IIIT-Bangalore. We have developed Artificial Intelligent player which predicts the next move and the Machine Learning that has been integrated with AI player, determines the probability of Win/Lose before even playing the move (in just fraction of seconds), by generating a huge Binary Tree.
How does your research help the people in industry or in academia ?
- It enhances the research field by exploring the Machine Learning techniques. Since it involves both Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, tightly coupled, it opens up the door for finding out complexities and solution to those complex problems.
Where did you get the inspiration about the research (A professor who guided you, or maybe you got inspiration from a peer, or a senior. Describe a little) ?
There were primarily two inspirational sources. One: the urge to develop such intelligent algorithms which would make players more intelligent and second: Prof. G.N.S. Prasanna, who was my guide in M.Tech (IIIT-Bangalore) and I did this project for 1.5 Years with him.
Any advice for newbies in this field of research ? Any good competitions/conferences the students should apply for ? How to take a start with research ?
There is a lot of stuff happening around. But you need to look for your passion and work for it.
